Cameo
05:07
|
|||
Like a full moon on a highway ride,
Through the side window,
You stay with me; the same spot in the sky.
But weeks go by; the full moon wanes.
The shadow of Earth falls in between
And you melt away; where you go,
I don't know -- I don't know.
If you want to take it slow, that's all right,
But don't just make a cameo in my life.
I need someone to take the lead; take this heart,
And if you are the one for me, then act the part.
I'm looking for a one-man show.
So far, you've only played a cameo.
Love is frightening, and I fear for us
Bolting like lightning
At the first sign of getting serious.
It's not my fault; the word slipped out.
I opened my mouth; disclosed my doubt.
Now it's up to you; but you do
What you want to -- what you want to.
So far you've only played...

Get You In The Mood
04:05
|
|||
Sometimes I get so tired of carrying this shield.
Lonely as hell up on my pedestal, I need
Someone to come along and knock me off my feet.
I almost fell when I saw you walk down my street.
I see you smiling that mysterious smile.
I hate to think that I am cramping your style.
Sometimes I wonder what you're all about.
I think there's only one way to know; one way to find out.
So come on, let me take you beyond these city lights.
I want to make you stare up at the stars all night.
Constellations, spin around the sky;
Get you in the mood
To go dark to light, light to dark, dark to light.
Spend the weekend with me!
We may not have a plan; we have a good idea:
Go dark to light, light to dark, dark to light.
Forgive the imposition, forget your inhibition,
And get in the mood with me.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm wasting my time
Drinking your Kool-Aid while you're tasting my wine,
Like you can fool me into thinking it's real.
It's fake, but I feel myself wear out my brakes;
I'm spinning my wheels trying to get in a groove,
While you shoot off your arrows -- every target that moves.
So you've got to forgive me if I'm being too forward,
But I ordered an entrée, and I got an hors d'ouvres.
Go dark to light, light to dark, dark to light, light to dark,
Dark to light, light to dark, dark to light,
Light to dark, dark to light, light to dark,
Stay with me;
Dark to light, light to dark, dark to light,
Light to dark, dark to light, light to dark,
Dark to light, light to dark, dark to light to dark,
Ten days with me.

To Be Honest
05:02
|
|||
Two wheels spin through January air.
They keep turning, but I can turn nowhere;
It's been so long since I recognized myself.
Wait for the train; I contemplate the tracks.
What will it take to bring the old me back?
But the old me -- she never asked for help.
I never asked you to be honest.
I never asked you to tell the truth.
I never asked you to make a promise;
I left it up to you.
I never told you "one or the other."
I never forced you to make a choice.
I never gave you an ultimatum;
You gave it to yourself.
To yourself, to yourself, to yourself;
You gave it to yourself.
It's been a while now since I've seen your face;
You know you're not so easily replaced.
I wonder what direction this might take.
Is there a fire here, or is it merely smoke;
A walking contradiction, a running joke?
I wonder if I am making the same mistakes.
I never asked you to be honest.
I never asked you to tell the truth.
I never asked you to keep a promise;
I left it up to you.
I never told you "one or the other."
I never forced you to make a choice.
I never gave you an ultimatum;
I just gave you myself.
Gave myself, gave myself, gave myself;
I just gave you myself.
To be honest...

The Magician
04:58
|
|||
Beware the magician.
He appears in a puff of smoke,
And he sweeps you off your feet in levitation.
Take care, the magician
Will leave you hanging in midair,
If you dare to let him steer the conversation.
I don't believe in magic, but somehow he could
Suspend my disbelief until I'd only see the good.
You will defend the magician
And his vanishing routine,
And he will let you draw your own conclusion.
You will pretend the magician
Is just a harmless bit of fun,
And he will draw you in to his illusion.
So beware the magician.
He appears in a puff of smoke,
And he sweeps you off your feet in levitation.
Take care, the magician
Will leave you hanging in midair;
He will disappear with zero hesitation.
I tried to resist him;
I tried not to play the game
With the sets and props and costumes that surround him.
Inside the magician
Hides a person with a name.
What a shame that I can't say I ever found him.
